I AM ON SNAPCHAT!

I AM ON SNAPCHAT!

I was at spin this morning when the instructor played a song to finish up the class. She then commented saying, ‘it’s a song from when I was younger’ and that got a lot of students in the class excited, talking about the song and changes in times. Some started lamenting about the times when there were no mobile phones, so their parents couldn’t get hold of them whenever they went out for long hours. This then led to the most interesting comment of the morning which I found so funny and learnt a lesson from.

The lady said, ‘my son has a mobile phone and I still cannot get hold of him.’ At that point, several mums changed the direction of their conversation and started talking about their own challenge with their children. They all started lamenting and moaning about their children not picking their calls nor responding to their texts or WhatsApp messages. That was when the first mum said; ‘but not a problem at all – I’ve cracked it!’ Everyone then kept quiet and looked ready to hear the solution to their non-reachable teenagers…to which she said the most amazing thing ‘I am now on Snapchat!’

I burst out into laughter; for two reasons. First, the other mums were looking puzzled, they didn’t know snapchat and secondly, I felt I needed to warn the new snapchatting mum about a potential problem in the making. I looked at the snapchat lady and said; ‘I am sure your son will make plans to jump off snapchat now that you are on it chasing him!’. The lady then went into the details of how she has had to learn how to use this amazing app to reach her son. I looked at her again and said – ‘Well done you! Anything to reach the one you want to reach!’

The mum’s dilemma and the radical solution she came up with got me thinking of Paul and how hard he worked to be able to reach people for Christ. He went where the people he needed to reach were and did all he could to ensure he reached them.

See what the bible says concerning Paul

‘To the weak I became weak, that I might win the weak. I have become all these things to all, so that by all means I might save some.’ 1 Corinthians 9:22

Paul went all the way to reach all he had to reach. As I was joking with the mum about the potential of the son hopping off snapchat because mom is now on and would be able to reach him – I realised that mom was so determined that she would learn whatever else was out there to be able to converse with / reach her son. What a mum!

Well, it wasn’t only Paul that wanted to reach the unsaved, but God equally jumps through so many hoops and barriers, going from one technology application to the other – trying to reach and continually connect with us. I will implore you to make time to listen to Him, on whichever application He is on; because truly our God is on your side!

I HAD THE SOLUTION!

I HAD THE SOLUTION!

It has been quite cold in UK these last few days and winter setting in creates its’ own challenges; one of which is having ice covered cars which means a delay in driving off to the desired destination. An occurrence on Sunday relating to ice on the car taught me an interesting lesson and I cannot but share it with you today.

As a couple, we set out to go to church at the normal time we usually do, not knowing that there was ice on the car. That meant coming out to the surprise and delay of attempting to get the ice off the windscreens. We were going to travel in Pastor Eddie’s car, and for whatever reason, he did not have an ice-scraper in his car! As we were contemplating how to deal with the ice on the car, it felt like a better option to dash back in to get my car keys so I could bring out my ice-scrapper. Well, I did, and on getting through the door, my daughter asked me what I needed; as she was coming for the later service. I told her and she said – well I’ve got a better solution!

She dashed into the kitchen and brought out a liquid bottle – ‘here mum; use this de-icer; it will save you time and energy’. I collected this bottle and dashed back to the car; applied the de-icer and voila! The ice melted in seconds and off we went on our journey, saving us time and energy! As we started the journey, Eddie and I were amazed at the fact that we had the solution at home all along without knowing we had it. We have also been driving decades before the young lady that provided us the solution; hmmm; sometimes age doesn’t always give advantage! (another story and lesson for another day!)

On our journey to church, I remembered another icy day when I came out, started doing my ice scraping joyfully; only to have my neighbour step out, spray something on his screen and again within seconds; he’d hopped into his car and left. I remember thinking; hmm, that’s not nice; he didn’t even offer me whatever he used! Unfortunately, I didn’t pay enough attention to go back and check what the solution was. Also, I had it in my house all along and was almost envying another person!!

There are times in life that God has already put the solution within our reach, but us not noticing or asking questions may make us lose out on great promises and miracles around us. When God was going to use Moses, He used something Moses already had on him to do wonders through Moses.

‘Then the LORD said to him, “What is that in your hand?” “A staff,” he replied.’ Exodus 4:2

The question goes to you too today; what have you got and I wonder if God can use it to provide a great solution for you and to many

THAT WAS NOT THE QUESTION!

THAT WAS NOT THE QUESTION!

A funny situation occurred between my daughter and a friend of hers a short while ago and just remembering it a few days ago, got me laughing my heart out all by myself at the gym. I then asked her permission to write about it and she gave it; so here goes; (don’t forget to read my last paragraph and comment on the story)

My daughter gave a new friend a ride a short while ago. Her new friend then gave her directions, which she perceived was familiar to her. After a while, she discovered that she knew the area because another friend’s boyfriend lives around that area. She voiced her discovery to this new friend who then asked my daughter if the boy was good looking. My daughter replied her new friend saying, ‘Oh, he is not available as he has a girlfriend!’. The new friend’s response to my daughter was the kicker!

The new friend in the car looked square at my daughter and said ‘I never asked you if he had a girlfriend; I asked you if he was good looking….that is how people fail exams; answering questions they weren’t asked!’. My daughter was stunned and after taking in the statement; burst into uncontrollable laughter. It was such a ridiculously shocking yet funny statement. My daughter then got home and shared the story with my husband and I; and we literarily started rolling on the floor with laughter.

I am not sure if you found the conversation as hilarious as we did; but the point I wanted to pull from this ridiculous question and answer situation was the encounter Jesus had with a gentleman who was crippled by the well. Jesus met him in his pitiful long term situation and asked if this gentleman wanted a divine intervention; but the guy was quick to start telling Jesus the suffering he had encountered for decades and how no one was interested enough in him to want to help him. The gentleman never answered Jesus’s question; but Jesus had mercy on him – and healed him.

I wonder where you are in life now; but JESUS still asks this question and He is asking you today if you want a touch from Him.

‘When Jesus saw him lying there and learnt that he had been in this condition for a long time, he asked him, ‘do you want to get well?’ John 5:6

What if Jesus asks you what you want today? What do you desire or expect from God this year? Are you clear on it? He can only do exceedingly and abundantly above all you can ask or imagine! Ephesians 3:20-21. Set your mind on Him, not your circumstance and He will visit you with unusual wonders this year in Jesus name.

Oh, by the way; I don’t support someone poaching another person’s boyfriend; just found the girls response funny!

IT IS WITHIN YOUR REACH!

IT IS WITHIN YOUR REACH!

I know you have goals and plans you’ve made this year. I will however like to just give a little encouragement to say – whatever you do, follow through and do not stop short of your dreams and goals. Keep on moving forward because it is within your reach!

This advise became strong in my heart a couple of days ago. Eddie and I went for a walk and at some point we walked past an Italian restaurant. I saw this well dressed couple walk through the hotel entrance towards what should be the entrance to the Italian restaurant. Though they’ve walked through the gate, they didn’t seem to find the door to the restaurant. They walked about a bit and gave up. (How did I know that? I was watching them!)

In no time, the couple came out of the hotel compound and continued on the major road, looking for the second Italian restaurant on the street. They did walk ahead of us and got to the second Italian restaurant; however something strange happened because they looked through the window of the second restaurant and it looked like it was closed. The couple then just turned around and walked away. They went to look for and settled for another restaurant. I called Eddie’s attention to this couple, particularly because as we walked a few feet further up, we saw that the Italian restaurant was open and had a beautifully laid out restaurant with excellent ambience as well as what looked like freshly made Italian meals. What the couple were looking for was just within their reach, but they turned back before they got there.

They left their hotel deciding what they wanted to have for dinner, but ended up going for something else; a second best – because they did not persevere enough to get what they want. Well, it’s only dinner and not a big deal. My issue however is that many of us experience this in different areas of life, including important ones.

One of the scriptures that I tend to meditate a lot on to heed this warning is in Numbers 32. Gods word says that the Reubenites and Gadites came to Moses and begged to be allowed to stop short!

“If we have found favour in your eyes,” they said, “let this land be given to your servants as our possession. Do not make us cross the Jordan.” Numbers 32:5

The above verse is one of the saddest in the bible, where a group of people promised something great begged to settle for less. They were granted their requests, but that was not what God had planned for them.

This new year, whatever your dreams are, go for them and do not settle for less; no matter what… keep on moving forward because your destination is within your reach.

God is on your side!

RUN YOUR RACE!

RUN YOUR RACE!

Happy New Year To You!

Competitive running has never been my strength and I had such an interesting experience on one of the Sport Day Events while I was in secondary school. I was so traumatised that I can never forget that event.

I have never been sporty but one year in my secondary school, our Sports Teacher decided that we all must run and it didn’t matter wether we are good at it or not. I was then put together with the ‘non-runners’ in my year. We went for practise and it was bad! There were only 6 of us in that category and I came 3rd. All excited, thinking I could scale the wall of embarrassment, I informed my family when I got home that I ran and came third. Super excited for me as usual, they decided to come watch our next practise run as it happened in a public school sports centre.

On the second run, I got all set, my parents bought me the most beautiful running gears and came around to watch. We the non-runners lined up to run and for whatever reason, the other non-runners seemed to have developed wings and off they went the moment the whistle went. I did not know what happened to everyone or what did not happen to me! I just seemed unable to move my legs whereas others seemed to be moving as fast as they could. Before I knew it, they were all gone with a massive margin as well. There was no one behind me! I was beyond embarrassed; much more so because my parents walked up to me, while others were around and said; ‘you did your best…at least you ran ON YOUR LANE all through; surely someone should have noticed that!’ Not sure wether that was helpful or not!

At the beginning of a new year like this, we all start at the same time and place. Our paces however are different and our results always different and well. Irrespective of that though, you must get ON YOUR MARK and STAY ON YOUR LANE!

As against schools sports day, in life, your marks and mine are not the same. Your lane will also be different from that of others; but you must get on your mark, your lane and run your race. Your race is yours to run; so run it.

Gods word says concerning you and your race

‘Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize’ 1 Corinthians 9:24

As we start this year, understand that there is a prize awaiting you at the end of this year; but you will need to run so as to get the prize God has prepared for you.

‘Get on your Mark, run your Race and get your Prize’ because God is on your side!
