WHY AM I NOT REAPING?

WHY AM I NOT REAPING?

I was recently reading a poem that emphasized the benefit of planting and reaping. The poem reminded me of one of my childhood stories.

As a young girl, my parents gave us all some corn seeds, and a portion of our garden space to plant our seeds. The idea was that each person should take responsibility for their own portion. We all had gardening time. One thing I’ve never forgotten is the fact that my brother never took his gardening time serious, rather than watering and monitoring his garden spot, he spent time walking round our own garden spots and chatting with the rest of us. When it was time for harvest, my sisters and I had a healthy proportional harvest, whereas my brother had nothing to reap. He wasn’t happy about it, but my dad took time to teach him that no one ever reaps if they do not sow. That is a principle of life.

So, to the poem that reminded me of the story……

* If you plant honesty, you will reap trust.

* If you plant goodness, you will reap friends.

* If you plant humility, you will reap greatness.

* If you plant perseverance, you will reap contentment.

* If you plant consideration, you will reap perspective.

* If you plant hard work, you will reap success.

* If you plant forgiveness, you will reap reconciliation.

* If you plant faith in God , you will reap a harvest.

Planting always leads to reaping. So if for any reason you do not reap, always take time to look at your sowing/planting activity.

Lastly, God’s word also says

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven: A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. Ecclesiastes 3:1-2

Reaping always follows planting. So take time to plant, water and watch your seed so that you can reap the reward you desire.

HIS WORD OF COMFORT!

HIS WORD OF COMFORT!

As I walked into my spin class this week; the first time in over seven months due to the COVID restrictions, I saw my regular mates who welcomed me with enthusiasm. It was great being back in class and the exercise wasn’t too unbearable (apart from reuniting my African frame with the bike saddle which was more of an issue as the class progressed?).

As the class finished my trainer engaged me in a socially distanced conversation with some classmates listening in. She said; ‘Bola, what do you make of all the hardships of the moment? I have been looking forward to knowing your thoughts.’ to which I responded, ‘God is still in control.’ She then said, ‘Funny you said that. A few weeks ago, I was discussing with a friend and I informed her that anytime I get confused and discouraged, I get my little bible out and just open to any page and read. Most of the time, I get comfort and peace whenever I read it. After telling my friend, she decided to give it a try. I got a call from her a couple of days ago with her telling me she’d ordered her own bible too. She was so excited I had to bring mine out to start reading.’

As if that was not enough, she said she stumbled across her small bible given to her by her godmother 51 years ago and she just added these coincidences together to mean she is meant to start reading her bible. So, she started that night, and as she expected; she got comfort and a sense of peace from the bible. As we concluded the conversation with me telling her that truly the bible is a book of comfort and I’ll even send her more comforting words from it to aid reading and studying, I started thinking of the faithfulness of God and His continued interest in us all, whether we are new to faith, seeking God in faith or have been in faith for a while. Every time we look for Him, He makes Himself known and available to us.

Gods’ word in Jeremiah 29:12-14 says

In those days when you pray, I will listen. If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me. I will be found by you,” says the Lord. “I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes……(NLT)

GOD is forever close to as many as will look for Him. He will reveal Himself to us and give us peace and comfort in troubled times. His words are always apt and His mind never hidden from anyone seeking to find Him.

For me, it’s comforting to know that we have a God who is interested in granting His peace, direction, instructions, assistance and grace in troubled times. I pray the revelation of the presence of the Lord in your life and around you at this time in Jesus name

YOU ARE GROWING STRONGER!

YOU ARE GROWING STRONGER!

One of the convictions I grew up knowing about God is His faithfulness. I for one have seen His faithfulness in my life on numerous occasions and not just in my life but in the life of many people around me.

As I was meditating on the faithfulness of the Lord earlier this week, I thought to share with you an inspiring write-up by Johnny Ray Ryder Jnr that I came across. The write up is about the Oak Tree, it’s experience and it’s conclusion. Here goes:-

A mighty wind blew night and day. It stole the oak tree’s leaves away, then snapped it’s boughs and pulled it’s bark until the oak was tired and stark. But still the oak tree held it’s ground while other trees fell all around… The weary wind gave up and spoke, “How can you still be standing, Oak?” The oak tree said, “I know that you can break each branch of mine in two, carry every leaf away, shake my limbs, and make me sway. But I have roots stretched in the earth, growing stronger since my birth. You’ll never touch them, for you see, they are the deepest part of me. Until today, I wasn’t sure of just how much I could endure. But now I’ve found, with thanks to you, I’m stronger than I ever knew.”

Just like it did with the Oak Tree, challenges do occur in life, but if we have been taking our roots deeper in Christ, we will always stand strong despite the things that come our way. Growing stronger is essentially a function of the depth of our roots. God’s word says

‘Have your roots planted deep in Christ. Grow in Him. Get your strength from Him. Let Him make you strong in the faith as you have been taught. Your life should be full of thanks to Him.’ Colossians 2:7 (NLV)

Today, I will like to encourage you to get deeper in Christ and grow in Him. The more you do that, the stronger you get, with the ability to withstand every storm of life.

Great days are ahead and for that, I rejoice with you and pray the continued strength of the Lord to be released in your direction today as you choose to grow in Him.

IT IS DECISION TIME!

IT IS DECISION TIME!

Getting into my running gear as normal and setting off this morning was as great as any other. I particularly enjoy the wind and cool breeze of the current season and I have gotten into the routine of running, listening to a sermon and or praying. That was exactly what I did again this morning; nothing was different about the route or the routine.

One thing however was different about this run and that was – as I got to around the 2km mark of my journey, I tripped and fell over. As some of you may have known, I have once fallen during a run in the past and as I normally say, I do not fall with dignity. On this occasion, I was on my face, laid flat on the ground with my wrist, knee and face taking the impact of the fall. I got up as quickly as I could, noticed that no one had spotted me (less embarrassment –  I think!) and dusted my clothes off, pressed a few muscles and pressure points to be sure nothing was broken and now had a decision to make. Should I keep going or should I turn around and go back home.

I gingerly proceeded and was of two minds, going back home was about another 2km and I planned to run at least a 7km distance for the day. Should I abandon the run or should I continue the run?! As I went ahead talking to myself about the pros and cons of both options, I realised that I was already at the point of decision making but I just found myself going forward on autopilot and continued the run. I eventually forgot the bruise of the fall and though slower in pace than normal, I finished with an 8km plus run. I was not only well impressed with myself, I also learnt a lesson I thought to write about today; and that is – ‘even when there seems to be legitimate reasons to quit and turn back; if you keep pushing on, you can and will achieve your dreams and go even beyond your wildest imagination’

God’s word that came to my spirit as I pressed on and thought about the lesson I learnt from this story/drama of mine was

‘Anyone who meets a testing challenge head-on and manages to stick it out is mighty fortunate. For such persons loyally in love with God, the reward is life and more life.’ James 1:12 Mssg

Meeting a testing challenge and sticking it out without turning back or giving up is commended by God and it is worthy of a reward before God. So I will like to encourage you to stand firm and continue to push forward in your quest for the desires and goals God has laid on your heart or even in the pursuit of the things you are trusting Him for this year.

I know my run is a small issue compared to the main issues of life, but it just gives us an analogy or an incident to pick a lesson from and I trust this lesson has ministered to you today.

It’s decision time and I will implore you to not give up or turn back despite the obstacles as your reward is ahead of you.

God is on your side!

AM I REALLY IN CONTROL?

AM I REALLY IN CONTROL?

As we got into the church office earlier this week we discovered that there was a system set up within the building that allowed music play from a connected device through the surround sound system on the whole floor.

As the technology was being tested with my phone, I got all excited hearing my playlist booming through the speakers throughout the floor. I was excited for a couple of reasons, one of them being that I generally play and replay the same music over and over again – until I annoy everyone around me with the same music; or maybe they get to the point of them being fed up with hearing the same song!

So after the testing period, I was left on the floor with my friend and hubby Eddie and my music still playing on. He tends to like to work in a quiet environment whereas I love to work with music on. And if there was anyone to annoy with my music, its this same good old friend of mine! Well, as the minutes progressed, I leaned across the office door and shouted to Eddie… ‘this is great! Now I can control what you hear! I am in control here!!’ To this statement of mine, he laughed and said, ‘That’s why people cant deal with absolute power; as we gave you what seemed like control and you are already abusing it; well…you forgot that I have the remote control and can switch off the whole system as and when I like.’ To demonstrate that, he reduced the volume of the system with the remote control he had with him all along. I busted out in laughter and said… ‘how like the human nature to think we have power and can use it as and when we want.’

The event, though funny taught me a lesson on the appearance of control and what we as human beings think we can do if we have power in our hands. It is amazing to note that even the nicest and kindest person can abuse power and control if there is no accountability or authority to report to. God did not design us to have ultimate authority over our lives and endeavours, He always wants us to depend on Him and check in with Him often. The garden of Eden gave us an indication of that; every evening, He comes down to fellowship with Adam and Eve. He was often present and a strong presence of a higher authority whom they had to submit to.

Same goes for us today. You and I do not have control of our lives, but God does and when we truly yield control over to Him, we are protected from both ourselves and any external forces that could derail us from following Him fully.

God’s word says

And that the life of every living thing rests in His control, along with the breath of every living human being? Job 12:10

If you read that scripture from verse 7; it even shows that animals and fishes know that God is the one in control; why do some of us humans however seem to forget that? I guess it is because we have the nature that wants to take charge and exert our authority over things if allowed.

I hereby want to submit to you that; as good as control seems, it is a dangerous thing to have when you take it out of God’s hands and choose to live as you like. I will even go a step further to say you should never fully rely on anyone who has no one around them to ‘call them to order’ as they may be accidents waiting to happen!

Finally, I will suggest you rely on the Lord, get yourself accountable to someone and it will secure you in the days we are in and the days ahead.

God is on your side!
