LET IT GO!

LET IT GO!

What a year 2020 has been; it feels like its been more than 12 months! As I was looking through the year in appreciation and reflection, I remembered a lesson I learnt from a story I read recently and thought to share the same with you.

Here’s the story and the lesson :-

“Once upon a time a psychology professor walked around on a stage while teaching stress management principles to an auditorium filled with students. As he raised a glass of water, everyone expected they’d be asked the typical ‘glass half empty or glass half full’ question. Instead, with a smile on his face, the professor asked, ‘How heavy is this glass of water I’m holding?’

Students shouted out answers ranging from eight ounces to a couple pounds.

One student replied, ‘From my perspective, the absolute weight of this glass doesn’t matter.  It all depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute or two, it’s fairly light. If I hold it for an hour straight, its weight might make my arm ache a little. If I hold it for a day straight, my arm will likely cramp up and feel completely numb and paralyzed, forcing me to drop the glass to the floor. In each case, the weight of the glass doesn’t change, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it feels to me.’

As the class shook their heads in agreement, she continued, ‘Your stresses and worries in life are very much like this glass of water. Think about them for a while and nothing happens. Think about them a bit longer and you begin to ache a little. Think about them all day long, and you will feel completely numb and paralyzed – incapable of doing anything else until you drop them.’”

As we come to the end of 2020 and prepare to begin 2021, I will like to admonish you to choose what you meditate on carefully, let go of what you should not hold on to and hold on to what God has prepared for you; basically choose what you focus on.

There are things you meditate on that weigh you down and others that lift you up. God’s word says

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.”  Joshua 1:8

This coming year, I will like to implore you to consciously avoid holding on to problems but choose to focus and mediate on God’s word and His plan for your life.

Let go of 2020 issues because great days are ahead of you as you welcome 2021 and all God has for you in this new year.

God is on your side!

OUR GOD IS WITH US!

OUR GOD IS WITH US!

The experience of ‘God with us’ has never been more real to me as it is at this time. Events in recent days have shown me that even when we are going through a tough phase of life we can rest on Gods ability to take care of every other things we are not able to deal with ourselves.

I shared with one of my daughters earlier this week how I kept record of the display of Gods favor, wisdom and leading at this time. Small as some of the examples of favor could be to some; they were indications for me that God is with me and at work. Let me share two of them with you…last week Costa Coffee decided to randomly give some of their clients free coffees nationally. A certain person in my family, name withheld, was desperately hoping to get one but that didn’t happen…but guess who got one…ME! Secondly, our business organisation had a prize draw of some desirable apple products and guess who got one amongst hundreds of business owners…. ME!

Not just favor, the wisdom and leading of God has been so real to me during this period. God gives clear instructions and wise counsel on specifics to me and I literarily say what God says or walk Gods path and see the result clearly. I am so grateful for the reality of God being with me at this time and I do not take it for granted.

When looking at this Christmas period, I cannot but identify today’s scripture as one of the main benefits of Christ’s coming.

“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” Matthew 1:23 NLT

Gods presence is one of the biggest gifts of Christmas and the more you are aware of it, the more of this blessing you will experience.

I want to take this opportunity to wish you a very Merry Christmas full of joy and peace all round in Jesus name. Remember, God is with you and so enjoy His presence.

God is on your side!

CAN I REALLY DO THIS?

CAN I REALLY DO THIS?

Earlier on this week, I found myself asking this question when we came face to face with a tough reality of the loss of a very close spiritual son. It was a shock and equally very hard to comprehend. As the processing of this news continued in my mind, I looked at Pastor Eddie, my husband and said. ‘This is hard; this part of the job (pastoring) is hard’ ….I started wondering if I was equipped for this aspect of pastoring.

Again, the question Jeremiah asked of the Lord became a reality to me. When God gave him an assignment, he looked at himself and his inadequacies. God however caused Jeremiah to see differently. God showed Jeremiah that despite his weaknesses, he has been prepared to do a job for God and that is the primary focus.

Just like that, my spirit rested in the fact that it is not about me nor my weaknesses but in what God wants to do. I wonder if you ever feel inadequate or incapable of any assignment God has given to you, it is always helpful to take our eyes away from ourselves and focus on God’s help and ability to help us fulfil every task He has called us to do.

God’s word says

Do not say I am too young, you must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them for I am with you and will help you declares the Lord. Jeremiah 1:7

Take your eyes away from your inadequacies, but focus your eyes on God who is able to strengthen and empower you to do all He has put in your heart to do.

Just like I share with you, as an individual, I am learning to trust the Lord daily to strengthen me to do all He desires for me to do. I would therefore implore you to do the same in every area of your life, knowing fully well that the one who Has called you will help you.

LOOKING FOR THE GOOD!

LOOKING FOR THE GOOD!

Earlier this week, I read a true story told by Don Soderquist, the former president of Wal-Mart, who shared how he learnt to start looking at life differently.

Don had gone with a colleague, Sam Walton to Alabama, to open several new stores. While there, Walton suggested they visit the competition. Don said, “the first store was the worst store I’ve ever seen in my life. It was terrible! There were no customers. There was no help on the floor. The aisles were cluttered with merchandise, empty shelves, dirty, it was absolutely terrible. He [Walton] walked one way and I’d walk the other way and we’d kind of meet out on the sidewalk. “

Sam then said, “What do you think, Don?” I said, “Sam, that is the absolutely worst store I’ve ever seen in my life. I mean, did you see the aisles?” He said, “Don, did you see the pantyhose rack?” I said, “No, I didn’t, Sam. I must have gone in a different aisle than you. I didn’t see that.” He said, “That was the best pantyhose rack I’ve ever seen, Don.” And he said, “I pulled the fixture out and on the back was the name of the manufacturer. When we get back, I want you to call that manufacturer and have him come in and visit our fixture people. I want to put that rack in our stores. It’s absolutely the best I’ve ever seen.”

And he said next, “Did you see the ethnic cosmetics?” I said, “Sam, that must have been right next to the pantyhose rack, because I absolutely missed that.” He said, “Don, do you realize that in our stores we have four feet of ethnic cosmetics. These people had 12 feet of it. We are absolutely missing the boat. I wrote down the distributor of some of those products. When we get back, I want you to get a hold of our cosmetic buyer and get these people in. We absolutely need to expand our ethnic cosmetics.”

Sam saw differently by looking for how to be better. It’s so easy to keep looking at the faults and errors in others.

How you see surely determines what you see.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, Matthew 6:22

What are you looking for? That is what determines what you see. Don concluded by saying, “Sam showed me how to look for the good in what other people are doing and apply it.”

Let your eyes be trained to see good then you will enjoy a better life and your attitude to life itself will change for the positive.

THANKFUL FOR THIS TIME!

THANKFUL FOR THIS TIME!

The month of December is traditionally the month of thanksgiving in our church and this time around, I decided to do something slightly different in my approach to thanksgiving.

I personally have so much to be thankful to God about, but I chose to look daily at what I am most thankful for in the lives around me and I had loads of testimonies shared with me during this year. And that in itself as well as the testimonies in December to date made me look closely at the victories of this year. I realize there have been very many!

This recount got me thinking of how thankful I am for the pandemic! That sounds quite odd as the pandemic has changed so many things, disrupted plans, created uncertainties – yet it has created a lot of opportunities for thanksgiving. Now I know more than ever before that crisis creates opportunities.

There were many who started their businesses during this period and they are thriving, many got closer to God and made their bible study and church connection stronger. Some got closer to their spouses and children because we mostly spent time together within relatively confined spaces. It’s been interestingly eye opening how creative many of us could get and for that I am so grateful.

God’s word says

In all things, give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 1 Thessalonians 5:18

I am thankful for this time. Are you?

I implore you to be thankful for everything you have achieved or experienced this year. I also pray the Lord will open your eyes to see the things to be thankful for during this unprecedented year. Things that will make you look back at 2020 and just give praise because only God could have taken you through this year.
