ARE YOUR EARS TUNED?
Have you ever found yourself struggling with the pronunciation of some words? My write up today about Are Your Ears Tuned? shares an incident between my husband and I. I tend to harass him whenever he pronounces certain words.
So, earlier on today while chatting, he pronounced one of such words and as usual, I was quick to pounce. I told him he got the pronunciation of the word wrong. At that point he laughed and said my ears were tuned to hear him pronounce the word wrongly! He said, it was not his pronunciation as much as my hearing that was faulty! That little drama however got me thinking about what our ears are tuned to hear.
The story is told of a farmer who moved to Wall Street as a trader. One day as he was walking at lunch hour with a colleague, he heard a noise and asked if his friend heard the same. The ex-farmer said he heard the noise of a distressed cricket but the friend did not hear that due to the noise around.
The ex-farmer explained that he heard because he had tuned his ears to hear such sound. He then went about carrying out an experiment. He dropped a coin and despite the noise, everybody around stopped and looked down to find the coin. Everyone knew the sound of money as their ears were tuned to it but not the sound of a distressed cricket.
The story shows that we hear whatever we look out for. The learning point is that if we tune in to God we will hear Him. If you turn aside and listen out for His voice despite your busy lifestyle, you will surely hear Him.
God’s word says
‘My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.’ Proverbs 2:1-5 (ESV)
If you tune your ears to the word of the Lord, you will hear His voice. It takes being attentive and inclining our hearts to understanding to get the instructions He has prepared for us. I can clearly say that if we seek God’s words the way the traders were seeking for the coin – ears tuned in; we will hear, grow, and be blessed.
The Lord is on your side!
