Earlier on this week, I found myself asking this question when we came face to face with a tough reality of the loss of a very close spiritual son. It was a shock and equally very hard to comprehend. As the processing of this news continued in my mind, I looked at Pastor Eddie, my husband and said. ‘This is hard; this part of the job (pastoring) is hard’ ….I started wondering if I was equipped for this aspect of pastoring.

Again, the question Jeremiah asked of the Lord became a reality to me. When God gave him an assignment, he looked at himself and his inadequacies. God however caused Jeremiah to see differently. God showed Jeremiah that despite his weaknesses, he has been prepared to do a job for God and that is the primary focus.

Just like that, my spirit rested in the fact that it is not about me nor my weaknesses but in what God wants to do. I wonder if you ever feel inadequate or incapable of any assignment God has given to you, it is always helpful to take our eyes away from ourselves and focus on God’s help and ability to help us fulfil every task He has called us to do.

God’s word says

Do not say I am too young, you must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them for I am with you and will help you declares the Lord. Jeremiah 1:7

Take your eyes away from your inadequacies, but focus your eyes on God who is able to strengthen and empower you to do all He has put in your heart to do.

Just like I share with you, as an individual, I am learning to trust the Lord daily to strengthen me to do all He desires for me to do. I would therefore implore you to do the same in every area of your life, knowing fully well that the one who Has called you will help you.

God is on your side

So sorry for the great loss in the fold, no one has control over death, continue to encourage yourself in the words and God will make you fulfill of the divine assignment.

Pastor Bola thank you for this word. That we must not look at the issue at hand to measure whether we are adequate for the job but to look to the God who has sent us. This is so powerful.
My sincere condolences for the loss of Min Femi. I have had a lasting good impression of him in my mind. My daughter said he was the one who actually took her round introducing her to everyone when she first visited Gateway Chapel. She felt so loved from that experience and made up her mind that very day that indeed she was amongst family. May his soul continue to rest in perfect peace.
