STEP IN FIRST!
I sat down with one of our pastors who shared his testimony of how he became an IT contractor with me. His testimony was so touching that I could not but think… wow; God wanted him to Step in First!
Some years ago, he felt strongly that it was time for him to transition from being an employee to becoming a contractor. As himself and his wife prayed, the word the Lord dropped in their spirit was that which God said to Joshua as well. When Joshua was facing the promised land yet did not feel capable or able, yet God told Joshua to step forward. Joshua did and the rest as they say is history.
The pastor got this word and then hit the contract market. Not long after, he got a 2-month contract and stepped forward despite how short the contract period was. A married man with responsibilities over a family of 4, decided to leave certainty for uncertainty because God said so. He resigned and stepped out.
AND THEN THE TEST COMES
After the first month on the contract, he got a call from his hiring manager that they had run out of budget for that project. Rather than extend, they gave him a one month notice after one month work. So, he only had one month to work on the project and the second as a notice period. What a scary place to be!
He however was not disturbed but went back to the God who gave him the word originally, trusting Him to open other doors. I can also imagine what the people around him who thought he was not smart for leaving certainty for uncertainty would have said at this time.
Well, he went ahead to look for another role. Got an interview within minutes of getting to the new location. That contract went on for over 18 months and beyond. That was about 10 years ago and the pastor is still contracting successfully today! What a faithful God.
As he shared with me, I went to study one of Joshua’s scriptural ammunition for conquest of the promised land. Check out the instructions here:
THE BIBLE VERSES
‘Now the Jordan is at flood stage all during harvest. As soon as the priests who carried the ark reached the Jordan and their feet touched the water’s edge the water from upstream stopped flowing. It piled up in a heap a great distance away, at a town called Adam in the vicinity of Zarethan. While the water flowing down to the Sea of the Arabah (that is, the Dead Sea) was completely cut off. So the people crossed over opposite Jericho.’ Joshua 3:15-16
And he said to the people, “Go forward. March around the city and let the armed men pass on before the ark of the LORD.” Joshua 6:7. (Check out this version)
God is ever faithful to His promises and every time He gives us His instructions, irrespective of the obstacles around, He is committed to fulfilling His word and promises in our lives.
Learn to trust God because He will come through for you. God is on your side!
